Government Polytechnic Premdhar Patti was established in 2014 at Raniganj in Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh. The institute is affiliated to the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh (BTE UP) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), with the capacity to admit 180 students across its engineering branches each year.
The institute exists to serve a specific need. Pratapgarh and the districts around it send a large number of students out of the region every year in search of technical training, and many of them cannot afford to. A government polytechnic close to home changes that arithmetic entirely: a three-year diploma at state fee levels, within travelling distance of the family, is often the difference between a technical career and no technical career at all.
What the institute aims to produce is not simply a certificate holder but an employable diploma engineer — someone with practical laboratory and workshop competence, the discipline to work to a specification, and the confidence to hold a technical conversation. Employability skills, self-confidence, etiquette, humility and hard work are treated as part of the syllabus rather than as things a student is expected to arrive with.

Admission to the three-year diploma programmes is made through the state-level counselling process conducted by the Joint Entrance Examination Council, Uttar Pradesh (JEECUP), following the entrance examination held each year. Candidates are allotted seats on the basis of merit and choice-filling in the counselling rounds, and reservation is applied as per the norms of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Prospective students are advised to follow the official JEECUP schedule for application dates, examination dates and counselling rounds rather than relying on unofficial announcements.
Because the institute is a government polytechnic, the fee structure is fixed under state norms and is substantially lower than that of private technical institutions. Scholarship schemes of the Government of Uttar Pradesh for students of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes and economically weaker sections are applicable, and the office assists students with the documentation required to claim them.
The campus provides a computer centre, branch laboratories, a workshop, a library and hostel accommodation. The library holds the prescribed textbooks and reference material for each branch along with competitive examination resources, and the computer centre supports both coursework and the online processes — scholarship applications, examination forms, counselling — that students now have to navigate. Hostel accommodation matters more here than the facility list suggests: for students from surrounding villages, a place to stay is what makes attendance possible during the monsoon months.
Beyond academics, the institute organises sports activities and an annual convocation, and maintains the committees required for student welfare. An anti-ragging committee functions in accordance with AICTE and Supreme Court directives, and ragging in any form is a punishable offence attracting suspension or expulsion. Students are also required to observe the prescribed uniform, and a grievance mechanism together with a feedback channel is available so that concerns reach the administration directly.
